Caring for your Yorkshire Terrier

It is important to know how to take care of your Yorkie.


The correct food to develop is essential for your puppy in his growing phase.This phase last about 15 months. A home cooked meal usually does not contain a balanced diet, commercial diets is most probably the best source of food for your puppy. Dried food has so many advantages that it is possible to have your puppy eating from about four weeks. Your puppy should be fed four times a day till about four months of age. Your dog should have a bowl of food ready whenever he feels hungry. Consult your vet for the correct amount of food for the puppy per day.


The adult yorkie's diet will be much the same, consulting your vet will be best because the age of the dog, his amount of exercises, etc may play a role in choosing the correct food.


Vaccination is very important, there are four types of diseases that is very dangerous to your dog.


  • distemper (hardpad)

  • canine hipatitis

  • canine parvovirus

Your puppy should receive his first vaccination at about eight to ten weeks of age. The puppy will receive two vaccinations, two weeks apart.Your adult dog should receive a vaccination once a year at your local vet.
